Properly matched images can amazingly change the empty space on your walls. However, hanging them on the wall is not as easy as it sounds. It takes time to think about an exact plan of action. We will advise you on how to skillfully start selecting and hanging paintings in a few steps.
Practical tips that will help you easily hang pictures on the wall
Remember the times when every living room looked the same? The interiors were gray and gloomy. Today, originality counts when arranging our spaces. Thanks to properly selected images, each apartment will become stylish and original.
Below we present the basic elements that will help you start creating decorations on the wall, regardless of whether it is to be one or several paintings. Pay attention to:
- image lighting;
- the colour of the picture;
- shape and size of images;
- additions to the image;
- arrangement of the room where the pictures are to appear;
- sunlight and humidity in the room.
Matching images to the style of space
Pictures are not only accessories, pictures are primarily a complement to the interior design. Therefore, it is important to remember about the compliance of the style of the picture with the aesthetics of the apartment when creating a home gallery.
Properly selected graphics and photos to the style of the room emphasize its advantages and individuality. And so, for example, paintings with rural landscapes will work best in rustic-style apartments, while vintage paintings will be a perfect complement to interiors with retro décor.
Choosing pictures due to color
The theme and colors of the painting should match the interior design. Otherwise, the accessories will be too contrasted, overwhelming and not aesthetically pleasing.
Balance is the most important thing! A perfectly selected image should visibly harmonize with the color of the room. And it's not just about choosing shades from one color palette. Remember that a canvas with a lively and expressive tone will add originality to a boring interior, and a delicate set of shades in the paintings will soften the look of a lively space.
Climatic conditions and their influence on image quality
The conditions in the room are really important. Especially when we are going to hang original paintings on canvas, which are more susceptible to damage. Too humid atmosphere in the interior will cause the canvas and paints to wrinkle and discolor. On the other hand, the rays of the sun shining directly on the picture can strip it of clear color.
If you are concerned that you do not have the right conditions for storing hand-painted pictures, you can replace them with pictures printed on glass or canvas. Glass prints are perfect as decorations for the kitchen and bathroom, where you can quickly and easily get rid of stains and dirt. And printed paintings on canvas are perfect for a bedroom or a living room. Thanks to such an alternative, you do not have to worry that the decorations will lose their quality.
The art of planning wall space and hanging pictures
Having already selected the theme of the paintings and other decorations, we move on to the next stage, which is planning to hang picture on the wall.
A gallery in a straight line? Aesthetic chaos? Or maybe one picture that accentuates the space? No matter how you want our collection to look like, there are several ideas for designing the position of your paintings.
Proven patent for the arrangement of pictures on the wall
Draw the shapes of all pictures or frames on the paper. Then cut them out and put them on the ground. Now it's time for the most creative part - the layout of the pictures. Match them until you find this is it! Then, use tape to stick the sheets to the wall - in the same layout you chose. Finally, through the paper, drill holes for hooks or nails. This way you have created a template that will make it easier for you to hang your pictures.
By using this patent, you don't have to worry about whether the paintings fit together or are not hung properly. We advise! If you are afraid that you will not remember which paper and where it was supposed to hang, take pictures of the template still on the floor.
Hanging pictures relative to the size of the furniture
Skilful hanging of paintings in terms of the size and number of furniture is justified by a few rules:
- Remember to keep a distance of 15-20 cm above the edge of the sofa or chest of drawers. If we hang them higher, the paintings and furniture will look like separate elements, and should form a coherent whole.
- Keep the same distance between the pictures - the pictures can be hung asymmetrically, but the distance between them should be equal.
- Rule 2/3 for one canvas - the wall space between the piece of furniture and the edge of the picture should be 2/3 the size of the canvas, and its center should be in the middle of the piece of furniture over which it is to be hung.
- Rule 2/3 for the gallery of paintings - when the gallery does not fit the width of the sofa, it is important that there are pictures of similar size on the edges.
3 ways to combine images
Our eyesight focuses on the most striking elements, such as the largest and most colorful paintings. Therefore, if we have a small, beautiful canvas and hang it with colorful large paintings, it will lose its artistic value. It is worth considering separating large images from small ones.
What if we do not have the possibility of such a separation? There are ways! Learn about three layouts that should be followed when compiling paintings on the wall:
- Images in a straight line. The largest image is to be at eye level, in the center of attention, and the smaller ones are to disperse to the outer sides.
- Pictures in a square layout. Where the focal point is the largest image that is in the center of the layout, and smaller images highlight the corners.
- Images in the / \ layout. The largest image should be at the very top of this layout. And the smaller ones gently lean to the side and go down.
